Refreshing Your Happy

Where do you find your happy?

Everyone should have a happy place. A place that, for unexplainable reasons, calms you. A place where you can take deep breath in…and then out… and somehow you find peace and clarity. For me it’s a beach.

I can’t explain why this is, it just is.

I’m currently sitting at Madeira Beach in Florida as I write this. I’ve escaped the hypothetical cubicle for the day. It’s 76 degrees with a light breeze blowing. The waves are rhythmically crashing, and the crowd is light (it’s mid-day on a Wednesday in late February). I am feeling inspired and creative and have, somehow, left the crazy of life on the other side of Gulf Blvd (the main road that runs north and south along the coast, and separates ‘life’ and the beach).

One of my favorite things to do when I’m at the beach is pause and appreciate the good in the world. I’m thankful. In the midst of so much turmoil, violence, hardship, and hate, there is the rest of the world that we must not forget to be thankful for.

This place didn’t come to me – I came to it. I recognized years ago that water calmed me. Because of this, I consistently set my sights on making sure I get to places like this – physically, mentally, and emotionally. I also realized long ago that I need to make it happen. When I plan my time, I intentionally plan time to get back to this place. It’s here where I physically, mentally, emotionally, and (most importantly) purposefully, let go of things that are affecting me negatively and reflect on the good in my life.

“The key to being happy is knowing you have the power to choose what to accep0t and what to let go. – Dodinsky

If you don’t have somewhere that puts you in this place, a happy place, FIND ONE. Then, make time to be in that place regularly.
