The Secret Ingredient

Like many of you, I periodically find myself scrolling, clicking, and saving my way through Pinterest. About a year or so ago, I asked my husband to bring home a few pallets (he is able to get them from a warehouse). I had no idea the doors that would open up for me with these pallets! Pinterest is full of various ideas and craftiness from people who have turned their pallets into an array of things – some I like… and some not so much. What this did for me was open up my own creativity and I often find myself looking at a blank spot on the wall and thinking… is this a place for a #palletproject? Or thinking of a friend or family member’s upcoming birthday and wondering… will I find myself in my workshop with yet another #palletproject?

It was that exact thinking that eventually took me to the blank wall over my stovetop. Where I created this:

I took a few slats from an old pallet, cleaned them up and sanded them smooth with my Ryobi Orbital Sander:

Stained them with a Walnut Gel stain:

Whitewashed them with basic acrylic white paint:

Assembled the pieces with a couple of wood screws and small strips of wood on the back:

Attached a vinyl template that I made with my Cricut Maker®:

Dabbed acrylic craft paint on the template and allowed it to dry before peeling away the template and tossing it… and then TA-DA!:
